In 1992 the introduction and implementation of the Australian Standard for wood heating appliances was introduced, thanks to the enormous efforts of industry representatives. For more information and guidance on issues that may arise from the operation of home heaters, such as keeping particle pollution to a minimum, please refer to our Wood Heating Resource Handbook.
Today Australian wood heater manufacturers are required to comply with the toughest standards in the world to ensure consumers are purchasing a quality product that uses renewable energy, is efficient and is not harming the environment.
The current version of the Australian Standard for flue gas emissions allowable for wood heating appliances is 4grams of particulate matter per kilogram of wood burnt.
Australian Home Heating Association (AHHA) members are serious about air quality and have worked tirelessly to develop cleaner more efficient appliances. All members of the Association are required to adhere to a strict "Code of Ethics" which can be viewed here: http://www.homeheat.com.au/about_ethics.htm.
As part of our strong commitment to air quality and the promotion of woodheaters as a clean and efficient form of heating, the AHHA has instituted a robust Certification Procedure to ensure that woodheater models offered for sale comply with the current Australian/New Zealand Standards AS/NZS 4012/4013. More information on the Procedure can be found here.
The wood heaters listed below comply with:
AS/NZS 4012:1999 "Domestic solid fuel burning appliances - Method for determination
of power output and efficiency" and AS/NZS 4013:1999 "Domestic solid fuel burning appliances - Method for determination
of flue gas emission"
